Getariako Txakolina

Known as Getariako Txakolina, or Txakoli from Getaria, this Denomination of Origin wine owes its distinctive character to the local grape variety from which it is obtained, Hondarrabi. The painstaking care taken in the production process by family-owned wineries, the Atlantic climate and our vineyards’ spectacular settings provide the personality and genuine character that are so characteristic of Txakoli from Getaria. The fact that it is so widely consumed both within Spain and abroad attests to the quality and expertise of the Getariako Txakolina wineries.

Autochthonous
variety

The autochthonous grape used to make Getariako Txakolina is the Hondarrabi and there are actually two different varieties: Hondarrabi Zuria (white) and Hondarrabi Beltza (red). The white grape is however the main variety used to produce Getariako Txakolina D.O. txakoli.

Getariako Txakolina wineries produce white txakoli first and foremost, followed by rosé and, albeit only occasionally, red txakoli. Sparkling and late-harvest wines are also produced.

Getariako Txakolina Denomination of Origin txakoli is a young wine with a moderate alcohol content and balanced acidity. To fully appreciate all its nuances, we recommend serving it in a glass at a temperature of between 6 and 10ºC.

a land: Gipuzkoa

Although Getariako Txakolina vineyards and wineries are scattered throughout Gipuzkoa, stretching from the far east, through inland valleys and mountains all the way to the coast, 90% of the 446 hectares (some 1100 acres) of vineyards, are located in coastal areas.

Designation of Origin

Getariako Txakolina won the Getariako Txakolina Designation of Origin in 1989, thanks to the joint work of the harvesters, restaurateurs and the Basque administration. Since 2007, this name has covered the whole of Gipuzkoa, whose Regulatory Council guarantees the quality and origin of this wine made from its grapes.
