The presentation of the 2024 harvest, the 35th vintage to be released with our Numbered Seal of Guarantee took place on the 17th of January. During the event at the Balenciaga Museum, we presented the Mahasti Jaun Award to the Kofradia Itsas Etxea in recognition of its efforts to promote inshore fishing and local products, including Getariako Txakolina, two products that combine to perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presentation, which takes place every year during the festival of San Ant\u00f3n, brought together institutions and wineries in a\u00a0small private event at the Balenciaga Museum<\/strong>.\u00a0The popular celebration known as Txakolin Eguna \u2013 Txakoli Day \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>took place afterwards at the\u00a0Getaria pelota court,\u00a0<\/strong>where attendees were able to sample txakolis from 24 of Getariako Txakolina\u2019s wineries in a festive atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"Getariako\n\n\n\n

The 2024 harvest: The 35th vintage of Getariako Txakolina D.O.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 2024 harvest is the 35th harvest to be released with our Numbered Seal of Guarantee<\/strong>. 35 years during which Getariako Txakolina has developed into a highly professional sector in which a new generation is proving its worth. With 20% of its production exported<\/strong> overseas, the authenticity of Getariako Txakolina <\/strong>is recognised all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As 2024, like 2023, was a wet year with only a few clear days, it was only thanks to the professionalism of the winegrowers that we were able to obtain a good quality production, albeit 10% less than last year. The wineries are investing in innovation while maintaining the tradition and identity of Getariako Txakolina<\/strong>, a fresh wine with an average alcohol content of 11\u00ba, balanced in the mouth with mild acidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s production amounted to 2,500,000 litres, <\/strong>10% less than in 2023, which equates to approximately 3,200,000 bottles on the market<\/strong>.  91% of the txakoli produced was white, 9% ros\u00e9 and 1% red<\/strong>. The 2024 harvest produced the purely testimonial quantity of 500 litres of late harvest wine. As far as the production of sparkling wine is concerned, around 40,000 litres are produced each year, depending on the needs of the wineries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, in order to keep pace with changes in consumer habits and tastes, wineries have been expanding the range of wines they produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahasti Jaun 2025: Kofradia Itsas Etxea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEating fish without a glass of txakoli is simply unthinkable\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kofradia Itsas Etxea, which is located in the old Fishermen\u2019s Guild in the Port of Donostia, San Sebastian, has been collaborating with the Getariako Txakolina Denomination of Origin since it opened in 2020, organising pairings of seasonal fish and Getariako Txakolina, two products that combine to perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"Getariako\n\n\n\n

This collaboration takes the form of tasting sessions at the Kofradia Itsas Etxea itself, as well as participation in events such as the Verdel Eguna (Mackerel Day) in Mutriku, the Antxua Eguna (Anchovy Day) in Getaria and the Hegaluze Eguna (Bonito Day) in Hondarribia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kofradia Itsas Etxea<\/strong> was an initiative of the OPEGUI (the Organisation of Inshore Fishing Producers of Gipuzkoa) designed to promote artisanal fishing in the Basque Country<\/strong>, with two main objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
